Will the tanners work if I don't tan naturally?
Yes. The nasal tanners work by increasing the melanin levels in your skin. Melanin is the pigment that gives your skin colour. If you lack melanin, you're likely to have fairer skin that struggles to tan, and probably sometimes burn. If you have higher levels of melanin, you'll likely have a naturally darker skin tone and you will find it much easier to tan. The nasal tanning sprays encourage your body to produce more melanin and in turn this helps to achieve a darker and deeper tan without the risks of burning.
Which strength is the best for me?
This will depend on you as an individual and your goals. If you have fair skin that usually burns and rarely tans then it is better to start with a stronger strength. This is because you lack melanin the most and therefore need a stronger melanin boost than someone who tans easily. You can however start with whatever you feel comfortable with - you can always go up a strength or two next time! An A grade or A* grade are good starting points. Each strength has a short explanation on its listing.
What are the tanning sprays made of?
The active ingredient is Melanotan 2. This is mixed with sterile water. We sometimes add a small drop of food flavouring to give it a more pleasant scent & taste. We currently only offer cherry scented sprays but we're open to other flavour suggestions - give us a message!
What is Melanotan2?
Melanotan 2 is a synthetic melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) that contributes to melanin pigment cells production. It acts by creating a protective skin layer that reduces the negative impact of ultraviolet light.
Will it give me pigmentation?
No - in fact it could help to improve pigmentation. Melanotan was actually first synthesised in the 1990s by a team of researchers headed by Victor J. Hruby and Mac E. Hadley at the University of Arizona. They wanted to help people with skin pigmentation issues, such as vitiligo. Vitiligo is a condition where pale white patches develop on the skin, caused by a lack of melanin. As Melanotan2 increases the melanin in the skin, they found this to be extremely helpful in helping those with this condition & other pigmentation issues.
In doing so, they also realised it to artificially stimulate melanogenesis to allow people to tan without the need for prolonged exposure to harmful UV radiation & reduce the risk of melanoma for those who spend a lot of time outside.
